By situating the residency in Kerala, we aim to foster a productive mixing of languages, culture, and perspectives during the three weeks. This time will offer you a solid practice, and enriching experiences which you can take home, sustaining you in the context of your daily life. People will be encouraged to take part in organised activities such as walking, hiking and camping in the local area, as well as participating in festivals and art workshops with local schools.

What is Kalari?

Kalari payatt is a complete martial, meditation, healing art form that finds its roots in Dhanurveda, of the ancient science of warfare, and is a 'relative' of yoga and some classical Indian dance forms. Based on the martial and spiritual traditions of Hinduism, Sufism and Buddhism this art is believed to be the mother of many Chinese martial arts. The practice entails ritualistic dance like fighting sequences. It engages both freehand techniques and weapon training and self defence. Based on animal forms the practice combines fluidity and power. Kalari training reflects upon your everyday life by increasing your intuitive awareness, as well as your relationship to your surroundings and calms the inner self. It is an excellent form of health and fitness and fighting spirit unifying mind, body and heart. This ancient form is very applicable to modern day life.

Details of Residency Training
